science n religion

Well I know we started with marriage but we seemed to get into an argument abt science and religion.. Shanks the “matter” you are talking abt when broken down is protons neutrons and electrons- Science. I am not saying I am all science and not religion. For me science is religion..

“Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind.” This is Einstein’s quote by which I stand 100%. I am not “pitting Science against Religion all the time to create a war of sorts” all im trying to convey is that concepts of religion can be proven scientifically. I am going to try hard to not sound nerdy and put u all to sleep 

For starters, the whole “karma” concept when broken down is just your law of returns or your law or averages, everything in this world balances out. Did u know that all that religion propagates- love, belief, hope are being traced today to the DNA. Now is where u raise the question “How do murderers be born to nice people?” that can be explained by epigenetics (interested ? wiki it).

Secondly I don’t know if ur familiar with the whole “mannagi kallagi puzhuvagi” concept in Hinduism wat is it if not Darwin’s evolution theory. I don’t know much about other religions but I can assure you Hinduism is firmly rooted in science.

Most of us consider a baby that’s born a miracle. I agree. But if u look in detail at the whole process of development you can see how it is so exquisitely controlled by both the mother’s body and later on the baby’s own brain, again science.

Have u ever heard of a visceral bond, the innate need of us to defend our own. The reason why a brother would stand up for his sister, the reason why a mother knows what her child needs even when the child cannot speak for himself. All this is ingrained in the DNA.

The only basic difference I can find between science and religion is this.

Science says, I have evidences now let's see what conclusions we can get outta them while Religion says, here are some conclusions, now what evidence can we find to support them? It’s just the way u interpret the whole thing.

And I admit there are a lot of things we cannot explain today. I would say it still can be explained scientifically but we are yet to evolve to understand them.

Finally arvi for everything u have a basis in science….. Not claiming to know even an iota abt finance but everything has a logic behind it.. if religion can be explained with science why not finance : P

  1. It would be nice if we could explain everything with science. But one cannot go through life saying unless i have proof of something happening i will not believe in it.

you are right to an extent a lot of the emotions that we display "can" be explained with DNA.But there a zillion things tat cannot be. Science cannot explain one emotion that humans thrive on- FAITH. that comes only thru religion.

try to show some faith in your culture and tradition, probably the reason why you are such a cynic

  2. science failed my niece who is in a coma for the past 6 months... the occasional smile, the occasional movement of eyes cannot be explained by any living doctor or any book of science.. but the only thing that can explain it is the extreme faith and devotion that my cousin and his wife have in the name of religion.

how do u explain that with science...

" try to show some faith in your culture and tradition, probably the reason why you are such a cynic "

Culture n tradition are not the only things that put on a path of good faith or whatever.
U can visit a million temples but ultimately u may end up finding faith n connecting with "your" God in ur own bathroom. The reason I say "your" is because I think the concept of religion/God/science is personal. U cannot draw stringent lines n borders n confine God within certain limits like the idols in our temples/traditions/cultures do. Science works on the same principle. Both religion n science are meant to be flexible and cannot be contained within laws or principles.Yes..they do make for a more simplistic understanding. But there's only so much u can get out of laws/principles. The point is you can't say.. Science explains religion or vice versa. If u do, u r missing the whole point.Dont draw rigid lines. Be flexible towards both n u will reach more balanced conclusions.
p.s. religion says God is universe and science says universe is expanding. Ultimately both science n religion can be combined to mean, God = Universe = expanding.Nothing should be/can be or ever will be contained.
p.s. Your blog made for an interesting read.

  5. well smiling cloud, the one thing that directs you towards finding your own sense of god is culture and tradition.Ever since u were a kid its the culture that instills the belief of god in you. i am sure u remember the words "ummachi kannai kuthum" each time u did something wrong. I agree with you hundred percent about "your" god. The perception of god varies from person to person. But what makes you want to find that god is your culture and tradition.

If you think that way i don think u can comment n say that science cannot explain religion. if u can find god in your bathroom cant arts find it in science?

  6. come on smiling cloud has a good point, the concept of religion is personal (but science?not so sure. culture and tradition needn necessarily put u in the path of righteousness. I dont go to the temple much or do sandhyavanthanam regularly (not everyone is goody goody you ashok :P)but that doesn mean i dont have faith in god. culture can do only somuch the rest is upto the induvidual. but well i would have been surprised if u din stand up for arts here:P

and arts ur blog is sama time pass going to make it a point to read regularly

I prefer to place my cards on science than on religion. Its safer and yields returns too :)

  8. god...i am feeling too old for this man... i thought this went out with dan brown's demons and the bollywoodish ending...
rt this is getting too difficult for me to comprehend..
and i stand by my statement...no!! science can't explain finance...
if religion is the opium of the masses... finance is its LSD>>

but anyways topic change....write something more exciting... like how a gujarati nano will be more fuel efficient (possibly its in the genes. =)) )

  9. hey ofcourse for most things we can agree tht religion is supported by science. but certainly not all! the emotional part of life - trust faith has nothin with science. but as u said for most other things we cant find a reason as to why each thing happens. true !
